Graduate Program
Programs of Study
The Department of Mathematics offers programs leading to the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Courses of study are available in all of the principal branches of mathematics: algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, combinatorics, geometry, logic, group theory, mathematical biology, number theory, probability, ergodic theory, representation theory, and topology.
Starting 2009 the department also offers a two-year professional M.S. degree program with specialization in Mathematical Biology. The program is co-sponsored by the Mathematical Biosciences Institute at Ohio State. The department expects to establish further professional M.S. degree programs in Computational Sciences, Finance Mathematics, and Mathematics Education in the coming years. More Info ...
Research Facilities
The Ohio State libraries have more than 4 million volumes and are served by a campuswide automated circulation system. In addition to the main library, there are eighteen departmental libraries. The Science and Engineering Library serves the College of Mathematics and Physical Sciences and the College of Engineering. This library contains more than 350,000 volumes and currently receives more than 2,750 serial titles. Students have ready access to microcomputers and the University mainframes. The mathematics department, jointly with the statistics department, is the home of the NSF Mathematical Biosciences Institute (MBI). The Office of Information Technology is a research and service facility that serves all departments, offering short-term seminars and noncredit courses directed to the needs of faculty and staff members and graduate students. The Department of Mathematics is home to the International Mathematics Research Institute.
