The Institute has funds available to suppport the research of individuals and groups within the department. We solicit the following types of proposals from faculty members in the department:
- Short term research visitors
- The Institute can help support visitors to the Department for the purpose of joint research. These visits are typically for one to two weeks; shorter or longer visits are negotiable. (Normally the Institute does not support short visits of only a few days, but see the section on seminar speakers below.) Some funds are available for transportation, lodging and local expenses.
- Short-term visitor request form [0]
- Seminar speakers
- The Institute supports the ongoing research seminars of the department by providing annual budgets (currently $3500) to active research seminars for the purpose of helping to defray travel and living expenses for invited outside speakers.
- Institute distinguished visitors
- The Institute supports the visit of distinguished researchers with a stipend of $1000 per week. The usual period of the visit is 10 weeks, but shorter visits are possible. Often the visitor offers a graduate course through the Mathematics Department. In any case the visitor is expected to give a series of colloquium-style lectures in addition to pursuing research in collaboration with members of the department.
- Informal special quarters
- This could include multiple short term visitors on a single theme. This could also mean support for a departmental seminar to invite speakers on a particular theme. It is not intended that seminars will be supported permanently in this way.
- Special quarters and conferences
- The Institute is always looking for proposals for more large-scale special quarters and conferences.
- Guidelines for Support
- The guidelines that the MRI follows for support are contained in the document guide [0].
