Abstract

The trace formula, developed by Arthur, is one of the most important tools in automorphic forms. In its geometric side volumes of certain polytopes appear as weights of orbital integrals. These volumes can be computed by a method of
McMullen-Scneider. On the spectral side there are analogous expressions involving intertwining operators. I will discuss how to evaluate these expression, leading to absolute convergence of the trace formula. Applications to spectral asymptotics of locally symmetric space will also be discussed. Joint work with Tobias Finis and Werner Muller.
