History
Written in Dayton, Ohio in 1986 and first danced by Jim Carter (not the ex-president), two friends of his, and the author. The alert dancer will note the suspicious similarity between the figures and those of the contradance The First Fling of Fall by Al Olson [1]. (The First Fling of Fall was itself inspired by Eric Rounds' dance The Last Swim of Summer.) Incidentally, I still have especially fond memories of dancing The First Fling of Fall just before daybreak at an all-night contradance in Brattleboro, Vermont in 1984 or 1985.
[1] Acknowledgements: I had been under the mistaken impression that The First Fling of Fall had been written by Tony Parkes. Thanks go to both Philippe Callens and Joseph Pimentel for bringing this error to my attention. Thanks also to Tony Parkes for providing additional confirmation of Al Olson's authorship of the dance. Both Tony and Philippe provided some additional background for Al Olson's dance. And my apologies to Joseph for adding to the errata in his recent Cardinal Collection of contradances.
File prepared by Eric Conrad ( econrad@math.ohio-state.edu). Please mention my name if you call the dance. If you want to include it in a written collection, please ask.
