  1. Insert a comma for readability in Article 4 before the phrase which consists of:

January 20, 2004

  1. Hearing no objections, the bylaws committee chair accepts amendments 2 and 3 (proposed by Donna) of the report of January 15, 2004.  In the event that there is an objection, the original wording is archived at http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/~econrad/RFDC/bylaws-2004-Jan-20.html.  The proposed bylaws as amended are at the usual location (http://www.math.ohio-state.edu/~econrad/RFDC/bylaws.html).
  2. Changed numbering in Article 9 from "1 to recommend..., 2 to reject..." to "a to recommend..., b to reject...".

  1. Article 6. Change title: Duties of Officers.
    Reason: To help keep matters that belong elsewhere (e.g. terms of office, appointment, removal) out of Article 6.
  2. Proposed Wording for Article 7, Paragraph 'Officers':

    Reason: To make the wording a little smoother and more clear.
    Officers. Officers are appointed by a majority vote of the Representatives at the last regular Board meeting of the calendar year and serve a term of office starting January 1 and ending December 31 in the calendar year that follows. An Officer is appointed by a majority vote of the Representatives. An Officer may not serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office, but may be reappointed after the lapse of a year. To be eligible to serve as an Officer, a person must be a Board member. An Officer may be removed or replaced at any time by a majority of the Representatives.

    Board Members-at-large. A Board Member-at-large is appointed by a majority vote of the Representatives of the member groups for a term ending December 31 of the same calendar year of the start of as the appointment. A Board Member-at-large may be removed or replaced at any time by a majority vote of the Representatives. There may be zero to five Board Members-at-large. The actual number will be set by the Representatives of the member groups and may be changed by a majority vote of the Representatives.

  1. In Article 3 (Membership): Added a phrase...
    All Central Ohio recreational folk dance groups whose activities are consistent with the purposes of RFDC are eligible to become members of RFDC upon acceptance by the Board of Directors and payment of dues.
  2. In Article 6, item c (Secretary): Capitalization error.
    as directed by the board Board.
  3. In Article 7, (Officers): Change procedure for appointment to require a majority of Representatives, not just those present...
    An Officer is appointed by a majority vote of the Representatives present.
  4. In Article 9: Amendments must be accepted in writing.
    For ratification, the amendment must be accepted in writing by a majority of all member groups within two months of recommendation by the Board.
  5. Clarifications related to terms of office for Officers. Move term of office details from Article 6 which deals mainly with enumeration of the Officers and their duties to Article 7 where appointment and removal is discussed.

    In Article 6:

    The Officers of the RFDC are President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Term of office is one year with a term ending on December 31.  An Officer may not serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office, but may be reappointed after the lapse of a year.  Duties of Officers are:

  6. Limit terms of Board Members-at-large to calendar years.  In Article 7:
    Board Members-at-large. A Board Member-at-large is appointed for a term of one year by a majority vote of the Representatives of the member groups for a term ending December 31 of the calendar year of the start of appointment.

Following the recommendation of the Board, inserted some language in Article 3:

All Central Ohio recreational folk dance groups are eligible to become members of RFDC upon acceptance by the Board of Directors and payment of dues.

Added a comment to the organizational model to describe the admission of new members.


November 11, 2003

Following the recommendation of Scott Roberts, inserted some clarifying language in Article 3:

a. Each Recreational Folk Dance Member Group (hereinafter: member group) in good standing . . .

Corrected date of last update in the Summary of Organization.  Corrected and updated dates of update on the Bylaws page.

Fixed typographical errors in Article 9.  A few spelling inconsistencies corrected throughout the proposed bylaws.  Officers are to be drawn from the Board (affects Article 7 and the implementing resolution) and in Article 4: may not serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office, and Secretary maintains other records as directed by the Board in place of subscribers.

Old Article 7 paragraph Officers:

A Board member who is otherwise eligible may be appointed to serve as an Officer, but it is not necessary that an Officer be a Board member. In Summary of Organization:

Added Scandinavian Folk Dancers to list of member groups.  Under Officers, list requirement that an officer must be a Board member.  Under appointment and removal, Officers are appointed and removed by Representatives.

Make changes for W3C compliance of html.  (Explanatory Note [20 Jan 2004]:  This insured compatibility of the HTML with most web browsers.  The original document had a small coding error which made it unreadable using Internet Explorer.)

Initial web version. (Explanatory Note [20 Jan 2004]:  The proposed bylaws were fashioned from a bylaws outline from the Country Dance and Song Society.  Major changes were made because RFDC's membership consists of recreational folk dance groups and not individuals.)
