Sacred Harp Singing in Columbus, Ohio

Time

Monthly on Second Sundays, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Location

St. James Episcopal Church on Calumet Ave, about one block north of East North Broadway and about two to three blocks east of North High St. Park behind the church and enter by the door nearest the parking lot.

Beginning singers are always welcome to sing with us and musical sight reading ability is not a prerequisite.

Driving Directions from I-71: Take I-71 to the N. Broadway exit (#114). Go west on E. North Broadway to traffic light at Calumet. Turn right (north) onto Calumet. The church is immediately on the right hand (east) side of the street.
Driving Directions from North High Street: Turn east onto E. North Broadway [there is a Kroger supermarket on the northwest corner of High and North Broadway] and drive to the traffic light at Calumet. Turn left (north) onto Calumet and the church is immediately on your right.
Parking: Park in the parking lot behind the building.
Enter from the back door, near the parking lot.

Songbooks

We use the Original Sacred Harp (Denson Book, 1991 edition). We have a small supply of loaner books available for use by guests, visitors, and forgetful regular singers. These loaner books are available for purchase at cost (currently about $14.00 per book).

Performances

Although we are a singing group and not a performing group, we do occasionally perform in order to inform the general public about the history, traditions, and practice of shape note singing.
