The two classes were curved together and all exams were graded
together - the same question in all exams of both classes was
graded by the same reader.
I can't give different letter grades to people who got the same
scores on the same exams. An explanation for the difference
was perhaps that most 2:30 students left the 1st midterm early,
while the 12:30 class worked hard to the last minute. Maybe
other explanations are more accurate. But the exams just
measure - definitely not absolutely but only approximately
- what the students learnt in the class. We grade e.g. all
Math 151 exams together, also when the instructors are
different, and in our case the TA was different, so the
policy is reasonable.
