Spring Quarter, 2005-2006
Instructor: Gabriela Popa
Classes: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10:40 - 12:00 at
C-100P. If you miss any class, it is your responsability to make sure that you know the material covered in that class.
Please try to make friends in class and ask somebody to pick up handouts or anything I bring to class. Also ask a coleague to take good notes and copy them.
I encourage everbody in this class to go over the notes before each class, and do the assignments daily. It is very important for your success in this class. Be prepared to spend at home an avarage of 2 hours for every hour of class time. This is true not only for this class.
Textbook: Ernest Haeussler and Richard S. Paul, Introductory
Mathematical Analysis for Business, Economics, and
the Life and Social Sciences, 11th edition. Introductory
Mathematical Analysis taken from the previous text and presented
in a customized OSU edition may also be used (with different section
numbers).
Homework will be assigned after each class.
Homework sets will not be collected.
Solving the homework problems will provide practice for you,
increase your confidence, and help you prepare for quizzes and tests.
Tests & Quizzes: There will be two midterms and one final exams. You may use your calculator. You may not use your text, notes, or solutions to assignments. Except for extraordinary reasons, you must take the examinations at the scheduled times for test and quizzes. There will be seven quizzes. The best five quizzes will be counted to bring 100 points towards your grade.
The Math Lab: I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the
Math Lab in the Conard Learning Center.
Calculators: Calculators are not
required in this course. You may use a graphical calculator during
quizzes and exams. However, calculators with computer algebra
capabilities, such as the TI-89 or the TI-92 are not permitted in
quizzes, in the midterms or in the
final exam. Laptops and PDAs are also not allowed. The exam and quiz
problems
will be structured and graded in such a way that the use of a
calculator
is not necessary.
