Instructor: Gabriela Popa
Classes: Monday, Wednesday, 9:55 - 12:00 at
O-468. Labs: W, 0315-0520 or F, 1:00-3:05 pm at O-468. If you miss any class, it is your responsability to make sure that you know the material covered in that class.
Please try to make friends in class and ask somebody to pick up handouts or anything I bring to class. Also ask a coleague to take good notes and copy them.
I encourage everbody in this class to go over the notes before each class, and do the assignments daily. It is very important for your success in this class. Be prepared to spend at home an avarage of 2 hours for every hour of class time. This is true not only for this class.
TEXTBOOK: Physics, 7-th ed, by Cutnell & Johnson, Volumes 1, ISBN: 0-471-66316-6,
Wiley,
You should read sections of the book before
they
are studied in class.
Homework will be assigned after each class.
Homework sets will not be collected.
Solving the homework problems will provide practice for you,
increase your confidence, and help you prepare for quizzes and tests.
Tests & Quizzes: There will be one midterm and one final exams. You may use your calculator. During the tests, you may not use your text, notes, or solutions to assignments. Except for extraordinary reasons, you must take the examinations at the scheduled times for test and quizzes. There will be seven quizzes. The best five quizzes will be counted to bring 100 points towards your grade.
Calculators: You may use graphing calculator. Click here for a virtual graphing calculator.
