Description: This course is devoted mostly to the study of symmetry. The mathematical theory of symmetry is called group theory. The plan is to follow the textbook fairly closely.
Grading: Weekly Homework (40%) + Midterm 1 (15%) + Midterm 2 (15%) + Final exam (30%).
Midterm 1: October 12 (Wednesday), in class. The exam covers everything discussed until the Oct. 5 lecture (inclusive). Solutions.
Midterm 2: November 16 (Wednesday), in class. The exam covers everything discussed until the Nov. 9 lecture (inclusive), including homeworks. Important: be sure to study homeworks and the definitions therein.
Final Exam: December 6 (Tuesday), 1:30-3:18pm. The exam covers everything discussed, including homeworks and past exams. See here for exam scheduling.
