Description: This course is devoted mostly to the study of fields and Galois theory, which is motivated by the desire to solve polynomial equations. The plan is to follow the textbook fairly closely.
Grading: Weekly Homework (40%) + Midterm 1 (15%) + Midterm 2 (15%) + Final exam (30%).
Midterm 1: April 18 (Wednesday), in class. The exam covers everything discussed until the April 11 lecture (inclusive), including Homeworks 1 and 2. Solutions.
Midterm 2: May 16 (Wednesday), in class. The exam covers everything discussed until the May 09 lecture (inclusive), including homeworks 1--5 (not 6). Solutions.
Final Exam: June 5 (Tuesday), 1:30-3:18pm. The exam covers everything discussed, including homeworks and past exams. See here for exam scheduling.
