787.03 Summer 2003 Week 8
Week 8 (week of August 11). Topic for the week:
Sequences and Series of functions (Berkeley chapter 1.6, Kaczor and
Nowak V.2 chapter 3).
The second mock exam was on Tuesday, August 12, 6:15 pm in
BE 285.
On Monday, August 11, we solved problem 2.3.40 from Kaczor
and Nowak, V.2, and Spring 99, #3. Then we started to work on
sequences and series of functions. We reviewd the Arzela-Ascoli
theorem and got about 3/4 of the way through Berkeley problem
1.6.24. I intended also to do Berkeley problems 1.6.27 and
1.6.26 (will do that next time).
On Tuesday, August 12, On Tuesday, August 12, we solved the
following Berkeley problems: 1.6.24, 1.6.27, 1.6.26, 1.6.2, and
1.6.21. I intended to do 1.6.29 but ran out of time (will do it
Wednesday). Our second mock test is in BE 285 tonight at 6:15 pm.
On Wednesday, August 13, we solved the problems on the second mock exam (see solutions).
On Friday, August 16, we solved Berkeley problem 1.6.29,
Kaczor and Nowak V2 problems 3.1.14, 3.1.31 (the big theorem on
uniform convergence and differentiation), and 3.2.14 b.
