Mission Statement
Cycle is a community of undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Mathematics at The Ohio State University dedicated to fostering a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable undergraduate experience. We serve to include students immediately as they transition from high school to undergraduate studies. We are a largely student-run organization developed in collaboration between graduate and undergraduate students. Our focus lies in undergraduate student retention, particularly of those from underrepresented and non-traditional groups in mathematics programs.
Our Goals
Cycle strives to provide discipline-specific mentoring for our underrepresented first-year mathematics majors that supports the transition to college-level study by:
● Exposing students to opportunities for undergraduate mathematics research, graduate
mathematics programs, and pathways to industrial and academic mathematical careers.
● Fostering a supportive and inclusive local network that helps students thrive while laying
the foundation for becoming future researchers and practitioners of mathematics.
The application to participate in Cycle in the Autumn of 2022 must be submitted by August 23, 2022

The Cycle Mentoring Class
A one credit hour course offered in both the Autumn and Spring semesters which fosters interaction between first-year undergraduate students and upper-level undergraduates and graduate students in the Department of Mathematics. The course runs Tuesdays 5:20-6:15 with the location yet to be determined.

The Cycle Committee
Cycle was first proposed to the Diversity and Departmental Climate Committee and the
Undergraduate Studies Committee of the Department of Mathematics in the Spring of 2021.
Cycle is currently organized by six members of the department:
